South African Junior Chess Championships 2010
The Local Organizing Committee for the SAJCC 2010 finds it necessary to make the following announcement:
“The negotiations with the University of Pretoria to host the 2010 SAJCC have deadlocked. The costs for the venue and the accommodation are of such proportions that it will make the tournament unaffordable for a large portion of the Chess Community. We have also been informed of the change of dates for the u/16 Olympiad in Turkey from 26/11/2010 – 5/12/2010 by FIDE. Our Top u/16 Players will therefore only arrive at the earliest 7/12/2010, two days after the individual event started. At the time we announced the dates, the u/16 Olympiad was still to be held in August. The University of Pretoria is also not prepared to move the dates.
The CHESSA President asked the LOC to see if we can find other alternatives because it is in the interest of chess to move the dates. To be able to accommodate the two problems, we have no other alternative but to move the venue and the dates. We are currently in negotiation with the University of Johannesburg (Old RAU). They are extremely helpful and prepared to assist us. We realize that it will be difficult for Mid Gauteng Chess Union to host it so far from its home base, but we believe that it serves the community better. If we move it to UJ, the Team competition will also be first. We hope to have a final answer by 15/09/2010.
We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience.”
